Register today for the Handspinners Conference at the Nome Schoolhouse Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
What is the Handspinners Conference? It's a friendly gathering of like minded fiber art enthusiasts (or those who want to be) to get togehter and share ideas, projects, and a few laughs. Bring your wheel, your needles, your loom - whatever you would like to work on.
We typically start on Friday afternoon in the gym with some spinning time (or knitting or crochet - whatever your interest is). Then we will bring out all the toys. Drum carders, hand cards, blending boards, inkle looms, rigid heddle looms, drop spindles - these will be available for you to use and to learn on. Bring your own fiber or purchase at the Schoolhouse to make your own custom batts!
Chris and her gracious staff will be offering a tour of the mill Friday night, and later we'll have Fleeces 101 - an opportunity to learn why it does matter what breed's fleece you select for your project.
We'll have food available as part of your registration Friday night, Saturday breakfast, and Saturday noon. More on the menu as it gets closer.
Saturday:
The dye station will be open, and your registration will include one skein of natural colored yarn to dye as you want. Self striping? Variegated? Solid? It's up to you. You'll be able to purchase additional skeins too. We'll be dyeing in Clink's room next to the fiber mill.
We'll keep the toys out on Saturday morning as well. We may have another "mini-session" class for those who want to learn specific skills like methods of plying, crochet stitches - maybe more!
Saturday afternoon is always the best part - we have our "Mystery Project" - it's always something that you don't need to have experience to do, and it's a fiber arts related project. In the past, we have done wet felting, and needle felting, but this year's project is very different - you'll want to stick around for it.
We usually close up around 4 pm, and go back to our regular lives. But the Conference always gives you the chance to recharge, relax and refresh. It's a fun getaway with like minded fiber friends. You won't want to miss it!
Hotel rooms: all 11 rooms at the Schoolhouse have been reserved for attendees at the Conference. To book a room for Friday night, you will need to call the Schoolhouse at 701-850-7764 and specify that you are coming for the Conference. Hotel rooms are not included in the price of the Conference.
There are 8 rooms with single queen beds, but most also have a rollaway or a pull-out single as well. There are 3 rooms with double queen beds (also a pull out single).
What does your Conference fee include?
Register now - limited to the first 500 attendees (just kidding, this is North Dakota, don't ya know!) But make your plans now, we have been sharing the fiber arts through the North Dakota Handspinners Conference since 2008, it will be a good time!
